Obituary of Gerald Jones MD

JONES - Dr. Gerald "Jerry" Edward on Wednesday July 25, 2012 at his Lansdowne home in his 83rd year. Son of the late Edward (Ted) and Thelma Jones; dear nephew of the late Iris McCaig. Much loved husband of Janet (nee Abram) cherished father of Susan Georgoussis, Douglas, Elizabeth, James (Michelle), and Margaret Bell; Adored by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother David (Elizabeth). Born in Toronto. At age 17 suffered permanent paralysis of left leg. Despite this challenge graduated from Faculty of Medicine, UofT 1956. Dedicated and compassionate physician of busy family practice in East Toronto for nearly 40 years. Past Chief of Family Practice Dept and Emergency physician at East General. Past Chief of Medical Staff, The Riverdale Hospital Board of Governors. Occupational Health physician at Riverdale (Bridgepoint) and Baycrest Geriatric Hospital. Strong committment to amateur radio (VE3BRJ), Also a keen sailor and flyfisherman. Loyal fan of the Leafs, Jays, Argos. His family is thankful for the many wonderful years shared together. Special thanks to Dr. John Erb, nurse Peggy McKenzie and many others who supported us throughout the last challenging years. At Jerry's request there will be no formal service. Flowers gratefully declined. Family will receive visitors at their Lansdowne home on Sunday, July 29 between 2 to 4pm.
