One year after the passing of Dr. Jones, his memory stays as vivid as ever as an understanding, capable, sympathetic doctor who saved my life in 1978. Without him, my two children, then aged 8 and 5, would have lost their father and my wife would have been left alone barely one year after our arrival to Canada. Thank you Dr. Jones. Not only did you save my life, but also that of my family. For that we will be eternally grateful to you and your memory will be with us forever.

I am a friend of Dr. Jones' son, Jim and his wife Michelle. I've never met Dr, Jones but after learning of his passing and having read the condolences it's clear that his life on this planet was a special gift to all who had any connection to him. I would love to have met him. Our condolences go out to the family from Marian and Ron Jones.

All too rarely, as we gaze into a dark night sky, we are startled by a blaze of light, magnificently illuminating the heavens as it quickly courses it's trajectory and so quickyly is gone....a shooting star. A lifetime memory of the beauty of the universe. To those who knew him and were touched by him, your Dad was a shooting star. Those near him were bathed in the brilliance of his love for a time, as the trajectory of his life crossed others. In future times, as you quickly reflect on the majesty of the night sky, you will remember the bright flash of life as traversed across yours....a shooting star. Maggy, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Hold onto the wonderful memories - they will move from pain to comfort. Watch for "shooting stars". Blessings to your and your family.

I remember being asked at school as a child "Who is your hero?", my answer inevitably being "My Papa". I am so lucky, and such a better person, for having had so much time with him throughout my life. An incredible person and an amazing role model. Such perseverance in the face of adversity his whole life. I'll forever remember his contagious laugh, his sage advice, and his resounding strength. Some of my fondest memories are times I spent with him and Grandma. I miss him, but will forever keep him in my memories. My hero, my inspiration, my Papa.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Dr. Jones was our family doctor for years, from my childhood in Don Mills until I was in my 20s. He was down-to-earth, compassionate and a very good doctor, the golden standard against whom I've held all other doctors and practioners I've met in my life. Dr. Jones was the best.

So many memories to cherish....one of my favourites is sailing. As the oldest out of the five children, any alone time with my father was rare and our sailing trips were particularly special. With the city skyline behind us, I loved the freedom of wind in the sails and exhilaration of riding Lake Ontario waves (don't capsize!!) My interest in healthcare started with reading your medical books - looking at the “reproductive process”....Going to your office, helping with filing, waiting while you made rounds at Riverdale – these experiences gave me an appreciation for your quiet strength, caring, and social skills. Your guidance during times of crisis were a special gift – a calm, confident, deep voice asking questions to clarify the situation - never judgemental – helping to steady me when I stumbled. Thank you for trusting me to care for you in these final weeks. It was an honour and a privilege. Love you always. Susan

My Dad, my hero. Thank you for all the love, strength, and trust you gave me to build a life for not just me, but for my children too. You dropped everything in times of crisis to make what was wrong, right. You believed in me when I didn't believe in myself - with your encouragement, I succeeded. Your stories and experiences have served as a guide to my children to carry on your legacy. They will treasure the memory of their grandfather who took pride in them and their accomplishments. We never heard a complaint even with all the challenges that life threw at you; instead, you smiled and found something positive to say. Mom always said you were forever the optimist and had no room for negativity. I know you worried about me sometimes. You don't need to. I will be all right. Trust that we will be here for Mom to love and honour her as we do you. I will draw on the memories, as your most precious gift, and hold them close to me forever. Love Betty Ann

Dr. J, as I fondly refer to him, will always be the first person I have known who truly embraced living each minute and each day of his life for the precious gift it was - whether it was the care he put into taking on a serious endeavor or how he appreciated the simple joys like identifying the chirp of a bird, enjoying a fresh breeze, soaking up the sun's warm rays or savoring one of the many flavors he enjoyed. It was inspiring to me to spend time with someone who graciously met challenges head-on, who approached each problem with curiosity (a real macgiver!), and who genuinely felt accountable to make a positive difference in the world. He was a sponge who soaked up every bit of knowledge he came across and knew something about everything (astronomy, medicine, physics, farming, music, mechanics and so on) but he was humble and so you mightn't know it unless you prodded for it. I enjoyed prodding and in return was the grateful recipient of very good advice, some humorous stories and his entire set of Leon Uris books! I believe, as individuals, we are the sum of all of the people we connect with. And I believe I am a better person for having had the privilege of getting to know Dr. J. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. J, Susan, Doug, Betty, Jim, Margaret and the extended Jones family for your loss. And may Dr. J rest in peace.

Dr. Jones was the first doctor I consulted in Canada when we immigrated to this country in 1977. After describing the problems I was having with my health, he immediately recognized them as the symptoms of Hodgkins Disease and initiated a lenghty cure of chemo and radio therapy at Princess Margaret. My condition was very advanced it was Dr. Jones' quick action that literally saved my life. Me and my family kept him as our family doctor until, much to our regret, he gave up his practice to go to Toronto Eastern. We appreciate all that you did for us, Dr. Jones, and we will forever be grateful for keeping our family healthy.

Brian Allen Jul 25 (2 days ago) I loved your dad and love your mom. They have been so good to me over these years and made me feel like family. Your dad was the first to welcome me to the area when I moved to Gananoque in 1996 and got me involved in the radio club. He never judged me, and always had good advice. In many regards I feel he helped shape the person I've become. I'll miss him greatly. I am in Iowa waiting to load, then have to take it to Manitoba. I will not be able to make it back by Sunday. I am sorry for this. However, my dispatch is trying to change that. I cross my fingers. If I don't make it please understand, the truck hasn't learnt to fly yet. I will come see Janet as soon as I get home. My sincere and deepest condolences to all in the family. Coming home for time off will never be the same, I'll miss our visits. But I'll always come see Janet. Sincerely Brian Allen
