Obituary of Ann Carmichael

CARMICHAEL, Ann Norah, RN (nee Hughes, 1931-2010) passed away peacefully on October 26, in Kingston, ON. Ann was predeceased by her parents LCol Laughlin MacLeod and Annie Elizabeth (Betty) Hughes and her dear son Peter Carmichael all of Kingston ON. Ann is survived by her loving daughters Norah Carmichael of Calgary AB and Susan Carmichael of Quispamsis NB, and grandsons Todd (Stacey) Staudinger and Mark Staudinger and new great grandson Ty Staudinger born Oct. 24, all of Calgary AB. Ann is also survived by her beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, BGen Robin and Diana Hughes of Westport ON, RAdm William and Miriam Hughes of Victoria BC, Jack and Susan Hughes of Manotick ON as well as Nancy Campbell (Jack Shipley) and Colin Carmichael of Victoria BC. Ann is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved very much. Ann graduated from Havergal College in Toronto (1949) and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal (1952) as an RN and Ann has been remembered fondly many times by patients at the Hotel Dieu and KGH hospitals in Kingston. Ann is a Lifetime Governor of the KGH and served for many years on the Animal Care Committee at Queen's University. Ann had a 20 year career in Kingston real estate with many loyal clients who trusted and appreciated her hard work. Ann's family would like to send a special thank-you to Sheila Dee who has been a wonderful friend to Ann for over 35 years. Thank you to Amy and all the staff at Rideaucrest Home for their kindness to Ann since 2007. Ann has been cremated and there will be a celebration of Ann's life on a warm and sunny day when her ashes will join those of her mother, son and nephew in a peaceful and beautiful place where the Golden Eagles soar overhead. In lieu of flowers please make any donations in memory of Ann to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
