My parents were very close friends with Art and Millie and David and I spent a lot of time together as children on long "Sunday" excursions the two families used to take. We would complain to each other about wanting to be anywhere else but where we were. Of course we always seemed to return home with lots to tell our fiends about the places we had been. As a teen I remember the dances at the High School, the club at Blinkbonnie where the Coachmen used to sing and of course the come back concert at the Festival of the Islands. What memories. Things will not be the same without David.

Dear Suzanne and Family, We would like to send our condolences and our prayers along to all of you. Although we only briefly had a chance to know David, the stories that we heard from you Suzanne made it clear what a wonderful man he was. Such a wonderful example of love and family should be an inspiration to us all. The love that the two of you shared and gave so freely to your children will forever be a wonderful legacy. We know how deeply he will be missed by all of you and our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. Love Tom and Tracey McNeely

To David's family:
I am sorry to hear of David's passing. My family rented an apartment, from David's parents in the 50's over the furniture store. That's when I first met David. He had a great singing voice in high school when he sang
at assemblies. I remember talking to him one summer when he worked at the Blinkbonnie. I believe he was a lifeguard. I worked part-time at the Golden Apple up the street.
He touched the lives of many people and was taken too soon. My condolences go out to David's family at this most difficult time. ...Fred Kristiansen

I've known you as a student, a friend, and a performer, and in each instance you were a lovely, wonderful person. I picked the photo because it was taken during a performance at The Odd Chair Playhouse in Bethel Park, PA. I was so honoured and grateful to have you as a member of our Summer company. In all the productions at The Odd Chair, the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, the cabaret productions in Shadyside, I knew I could depend on you for your professionalism, your enthusiasm, your friendship, and your wonderful talent. I will miss you, dear David. I am so glad we were able to hear your magnificent voice again when you joined us several years ago in Pittsburgh for The Odd Chair reunion.

It was with a deep sense of sadness that I heard of David's death. Over the years we had been in so many shows together that I have lost count, but I think the happiest memories were in The Fantastiks, where we were essentially a double act. It was a pleasure to work with David. I cannot think of anyone who had more enthusiasm for acting or who loved the theatre more. To David, there were no small roles. Whether a large or small part, his approach was always the same - a complete dedication to the task at hand. His good humour and total enthusiasm will be sadly missed and we shall not see his like again. My sincere condolences for your loss.

You were there when Maggie and I first met; and, through the years, we have often fondly recalled the wonderful times we had sharing the the stage with you at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. What a terrific summer it was! "Showboat," "The Music Man," "The Sound of Music," "Applause," "Kiss Me Kate," and (especially) "My Fair Lady." Your friendship and talent were so appreciated. You must have known how very much you were loved and how very much you will be missed. Thank you for the many happy memories you gave us - and so many others.
With true affection - Chuck Aber & Maggie Stewart

My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to you all. I wish I could be there to say my final goodbyes but with the birth of baby Brody so new, I will be unable to make it. I pray that God gives you comfort and that David/Dad is finally at peace. I hope that someone was able read my letter to him. Love Ashley and the Prado Family

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Thompkins family. I was born and raised in Gananoque and remember our talented David singing "Diana" on the high school stage. Last summer we attended the rib fest and later joined the coachmen at the Gan Inn for drinks! David will truly be missed by his family and friends.

David Tompkins was a kind and wonderful man. Although I only knew him for a short time - I certainly cherished every time I got to see him. His love for his family is and always will be an inspiration to me.
My fondest story of him was watching the Coachmen at RibFest 2009 in Gan. They rocked the whole park and his voice was second to none!
My heart goes out to all of the Tompkins family and all of David's friends.
