Terry and I are thinking of all of Phil's family today. God bless and may you find peace.
I remember fondly many times spent with Phil. One time was when we went out on Phil's boat to watch the Symphony of Fire. On the way back in, Phil (always being playful), gave our son Todd a water balloon to throw at a nearby water bus. Well, the balloon hit the driver and was he mad!! Phil always had the "gift of the gab" and smoothed things over...... But he was really almost dying with laughter.
This situation also reminds me of many times as a young firefighter at #4 Hall when Phil "played with water". But that is another story:).
We miss you Phil.

I can't recall our first meeting, but do remember working with Phil at #19 Firehouse. He was then involved with building the High Life and adept at fibre glassing. He agreed and I hired him to glass a shower stall at my beachhouse on Salt Spring Island. He and Christie, pregnant with Jason, spent our days off building that showerstall.
We met up on the job again at #17, where he was a member of my crew, energetic at alarms, drills, the volly ball court and of course the has-mat course.
It was at this time Phil was planning his Alaska cruise aboard the High Life. I joined as crew along with Graham MacFarland. Three weeks to Juneau, cruising, fishing for salmon and Halibut. Salmon were no problem, but, halibut took a while to master, though, we got our share.
We worked together until my retirement. A party he catered.
Phil visited Deanna and me on Salt Spring until his retirement. He was a great friend and pal who I have missed sailing up to my doorstep, but, will remain forever in my memories and my heart.

My brother Bill and I had a summer cottage next to the Linder's at Chestermere Lake near Calgary. Bert, Arnie and Phil were always kicking a ball around, or tinkering with boats. Phil always gave his best with a grin. He was an excellent sailor, hard to beat in a race, and full of fun after. Was thinking about him recently while attending a race in Cow Bay. Dear Marie
When I first met Phil some 25 years ago at #17 hall, I never thought we would become good friends, private industry cohorts, and skiing buddies
He had a personalty I was attracted to from the start: adventurous, a great sense of humour, industrious, and athletic.
Because of our common interest in Hazmat and teaching, we started running into each other regularly and soon were working together.
I So much enjoyed his company. We always had lots to talk about and lots to laugh about. He always included me in his life and work.
As I write this, I miss him badly now knowing I won,t see him again
I am so glad God gave recent time with him in Alberta
I have fresh memories of him that will keep me going awhile
God can tend to take special people from us sooner than we want
But He leaves us with rich memories that soothe our soul like a warm cup of coffee
When I think of Phil I smile....he lived life to the fullest
He checked off most items on his bucket list
He was always planning or doing something exciting
Maybe thats what I like most about....his zest for life
As I sit here in on my terrace in New York for the first time, I smile again
Knowing all the time he spent here with you
Phil has left me with happy thoughts
I'm so glad he was a good friend
Love to you Marie

I was shocked to hear of Phil's passing as I spoke to him not even a month ago. He was the best coach I ever had at anything. I will never forget the time I played for Phil. Hockey just never really was the same after playing for Phil. He set the bar to high I guess. He was always able to get a laugh out of me. I am short for words as this is not really my specialty. Phil will be missed. I send my love to the entire family.

I was shocked to get the notice of Phil's passing. Like the others, I remember a man full of life, loud with energy and the constant smile. We worked together a lot in the early years of our careers and he was a lot of fun to work with. We made homemade rootbeer, canned herring and made stained glass in the down time all organized by Phil. Summertime meant firecrackers and water buckets. Rest in Peace Phil.

A complete shock to hear Phil is gone. We had no idea he had even been ill. I have many great memories from Rescue 8 as part of a TEAM with Phil and Capt. John Schollen. In the early 1980's Phil made #8 Hall a fun place to work. These memories are still fresh as they seem so recent. Farewell Phil, John

Mary and I were in shock and disbelief when we heard of Phil's passing. Phil and I were in the same rookie class for the Vancouver Fire Department. We worked hard and played hard, fought fires together, dove together and cruised the northwest waters together. We only saw each other occasionally in retirement but when we did he was always there with that big smile and a huge hug. You will be missed by many my brother. Mary and I send our deepest condolences to you Marie and all the family and close friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Marie: Phil was my first neighbor on the river, living on his sail boat in front of my house. What a kind, helpful, great man you got to share you life with. Then you came into his life and there was delight with the 2 of you, your wedding, building your dream floating homes and being on the river. Life. What a precious gift. ...the time you shared. Please know you're in my thoughts. When you're back in Ladner, let us know.

We met Phil because Marie and Carol share a common Beaupre ancestor. Some people you meet and there is an instant connection. We only spent a few days with Phil and that connection was there. What a few days we had! We were shown the town of Gananoque, had a trip to the theatre ("Drive, Drive, Drive") and many hours full of good conversation and laughter. Carol found out Phil knew people from Can-Dive where she had worked. Small World! Then we discovered a shared favourite movie in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". We will never listen to "The Time Warp" again without remembering Phil. The few wonderful days we spent with Phil will always be a treasured memory in our lives.

Phil's passing has come as real shock to myself and many others. It has also come far to early. Phil stopped by this spring for a visit, we updated what was going on in our lives and of course did a short recap of our many adventures and discussed all the things that we still had left to do. He looked great and was as usual leading a very busy life. I and many others will truly miss a great friend. My sincere condolences to all his family.
