Dempster: John Edward “Ed”

Retired Gananoque Firefighter

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of my best friend and soul mate of 35 years. Ed passed away at the Kingston General Hospital on Thursday June 23, 2022 at the age of 78. Much loved husband of Sharon Webster. Loving father of Mark Dempster. Lovingly remembered by his stepchildren Jeff Roberts (Julia), Tracey Myles (Jamie) and the late Leanne Burtch. Cherished grandfather of Emma, Chase, Ana-Mae, Sommar, Alfie and Millie. Predeceased by 4 brothers Mike, Pat, Dick and Tom and by his parents Joseph and Margaret Dempster. Dear brother in law of Bob Webster (Ruth), Carolyn Wagar, Jack Webster (Debbie) and Donnie Benoit (Donna Deceased). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00- 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday June 28 at 11:00 am. Internment Olivet cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated by the family.

Ed began his career in 1966 and served as a firefighter with the town of Gananoque for over 50 years. 37 full time and 13 + years as a volunteer firefighter. Ed’s dedication to the fire service and town was second to none. He will be missed by his many friends and his extended firefighter family.
