On Saturday August 12, 2017, John passed away suddenly while hiking the Gananoque Trail.   He was 75. John was predeceased by his loving wife Dolly (nee Bird) and his father, Donald.  He is survived by his mother Margaret, his brother Fred (Joan), his sons Dan (Haruko), Chris (Todd), grandson Mitchell, and beloved friend, Joanne.  John was a very enthusiastic member of the Gananoque community, giving time to friends in need, becoming a leader in many of the trail associations in the area, volunteering at St. John's Catholic Church, the Thousand Islands Playhouse, and the curling club, as well as the tending to business at Willowbank Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Tompkins Funeral Home 63 Garden St. Gananoque on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church on Friday August 18 at 12:00pm. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the Rideau Trail Association or Willowbank cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
