Ginny and Bird Family:
We were truly saddened to learn of Bob's passing. Even though he has been in poor health for a long time, it is still difficult to say goodbye. He touched many lives.
Find comfort and strength in knowing that the memory of all the good times you shared will never leave you.
He has found eternal peace.

To the Bird Family, Ann, Richard, Laura and Barbara:
Kindly accept our sincere condolences on your dad's death.
This is a seminal event.
The keeper of the keys to the history and minutiae of Gananoque has been silenced.
What an immense source of knowledge was Bob! There are few who were his equal when it came to reconstructing the stories of the town.
Jacquie and Bob gave us a warm welcome when we established 'The Grand McCammon' restaurant back in 1986, and it was the beginning of a mutual friendship for many years afterward.
Always gracious and involving us in Bird family celebrations, they demonstrated their finesse at hospitality. We always felt like kin.
These will be memories we will cherish.
Great people have a way of resounding in memory.
I know when future generations of Gananoquians research the history of the town, the Bird family will be
prominent.
Peace.

Bob's infinite wisdom and knowledge will be sorely missed. A few years after my father died in 2007 we sat Bob down at the dining room table and with a camera rolling we gave him a scotch, or maybe a gin (s), and asked him to tell stories about the cottage front. He told us who owned the original cottages and how they made their way into the hands of the present owners. He told us who liked who and who didn't like who, with comical overtones. He discussed the deals that were made and why certain things happened.
Our cottage came through my Great Aunt Bidy (Violet Britton) who married George Webb. She passed it on to my father Peter Britton who gave it to his boys. Bob was at his best and there were many questions. And then he dropped a bomb.
He told us that Bidy had been married before George. We were astounded. This secret had been keep through 2 generations. If the first marriage had stuck, we would not have been sitting at that table.
When he realized we hadn't known he had great fun with us, and we with him. He was a remarkable man and I only knew the last bit of his life. I look forward to raising a glass to Bob with you on Monday. The Britton Family sends their condolences. Bob will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. I was referred to Bob many years ago, while researching the local boat builder, Jack Malette. Your father was very generous with his time, and we spent many hours chatting over the phone about wooden boats.
He was one of the first to tell me about a famous 16 X 30 racing canoe built in 1914 called Tomahawk. It took me 20 years, but I found her, donated to the Clayton Boat Museum, and Bob was the first one I called to tell him of my find. I so appreciated the details he shared about the 4 14 ft International "G" boats that Malette built in the winter of 1937-38. We finally met and had a short visit, just before he was going into the hospital.
I found Bob to be an intelligent, humorous man and a great source of information regarding the history of wooden boat building in Gananoque. I'm saddened about the loss of the stories he has taken with him.
I consider it a privilege and a pleasure to have made Bob Bird's acquaintance.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Anne, Laura, Richard & Barb
Terry & I are very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.
One of my fondest and earliest memories of you father was Sunday dinner on Princess street with him carving the meat. He was always very welcoming and had lots of stories to tell of Gananoque. He would say call me Bob but he was always Mr. Bird to me.

Dear Richard, Anne, Laura and Barb,
From faraway Oman, Haruko, Mitchell and I send our thoughts and prayers to you and your families. We are very, very sorry to hear of Uncle Bob's loss. We cannot join you on April 24 but want you to know that your Dad will be in our thoughts on that day.
Even now I can remember his voice as he intoned my name 'Danny.' Despite a gruff exterior, I found him to be always genuinely interested in me as a youth, especially around the time I first went to Japan. I remember accompanying my mother Dolly many afternoons on visits to your old home in Gan where Uncle Bob would hold court in what I recall was a very cramped living room, a room seemingly too small to encompass his booming presence. There, I remember the gossip of Gan free-flowing, but also tales of Gan and Bird history spun with enthusiasm and pride. I have a photo of Bob in his later years, which I received after my mother's passing in 2016 which shows him sitting in our house with Dolly and others around him, again telling tales and leaning in on his cane like he had a great secret to tell and grinning like the Cheshire Cat. This image of Uncle Bob is what pervades and I'll always remember him like that.
To Dee, Mary, Ginny, and my Dad John, you have also experienced a great loss in a brother/-in-law, and friend. I send my thoughts and prayers to you as well as to the entire extended Bird family.
Bob - you will be greatly missed!
