BARRON: PHYLLIS (PIP) nee INMAN SUDDENLY AT THE KINGSTON GENERAL HOSPITAL ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2004, IN HER 84TH YEAR. BORN IN STOCKTON, COUNTY DURHAM, ENGLAND IN 1920, THE YOUNGEST CHILD OF DORA AND ERNEST INMAN, SISTER OF DENE, LYLE AND GEOFF, ALL WHO HAVE NOW PREDECEASED HER. MARRIED IN 1940 TO THE LATE LANCE BARRON, THEY MOVED TO ROGERSTONE, IN MONMOUTHSHIRE, WHERE LANCE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE ALUMINUM COMPANY. IN 1943 THEIR SON, PHILIP WAS BORN; THEY SPENT THE WAR YEARS THERE UNTIL TRANSFERRING TO MONTREAL IN 1947. IN 1950 THEIR 2ND SON, DOUGLAD WAS BORN, AND IN 1962 THE FAMILY MOVED TO HUDSON, QUEBEC, WHERE PIP JOINED THE WOODSTOCK CLUB, BECPMING A VERY KEEN GOLFER AND CURLER, AND SERVED FOR MANT YEARS AS HOUSE CHAIRMAN, AND PRESIDENT OF THE LADIES LEAGUES. WORKING WITH A BOARD OF VERY DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS, SHE HELPED RAISE APPROX; $ 13,000 EACH YEAR FROM THE YVON LEFEBVRE MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT, TO HELP MENTALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE IN POINTE CLAIRE QUEBEC. AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF ST. JAMES ANGLICAN CHURCH IN HUDSON, SHE TAUGHT SUNDAY SCHOOL THERE AND WAS PRESIDENT OF THE LADIES AUXILLIARY, ALSO HELPING WITH NUMEROUS CHARITIES. IN INDIA SHE BELONGED TO ORGANIZATIONS DEDICATED TO BRINGING AID AND COMFORT TO THE POOR AND DESTITUTE OF CALCUTTA, AND A HIGHLIGHT OF HER WORK THERE WAS IN MEETING WITH MOTHER TERESA. UPON MOVING TO GANANOQUE IN 1982, PIP JOINED THE GOLF CLUB, WAS ACTIVE IN THE LADIES LEAGUE, AND ALSO WAS A DIRECTOR FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. A KEEN GOLFER, SHE LOVED THE GAME, THE COMPANIONSHIP, AND BEING OUTDOORS. SHE LOVED THE WATER, AND IN HER YOUNGER DAYS WAS A VERY KEEN SWIMMER. AN AVID READER , SHE HAD AN EXTENSIVE LIBRARY OF BOOKS, AND BEFORE MARRIAGE TRAINED IN BALLET AND DRAMA SCHOOLS, AND HER LOVE OF MUSIC HAD A BROAD RANGE FROM CLASSICAL TO CONTEMPORARY. SHE FELT VERY CLOSE TO HER SONS, AND WAS DELIGHTED TO BE THE GRANDMOTHER OF MELISSA, MICHAEL, ADAM AND JAMES. A GREAT GRANDMOTHER TO EDWARD. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT CHRIST ANGLICAN CHURCH GANANOQUE ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 23 AT 2:00 PM. A RECEPTION WILL FOLLOW IN THE CHURCH HALL. AS EXPRESSIONS OF SYMAPTHY DONATIONS MADE TO THE CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
