Obituary of Al Beaupre
Please share a memory of Al to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alfred (Al) M. Beaupré
It is with great sadness that we must let Al's friends know that he is finally at peace. Al, who was at home surrounded by the love of his family, passed into God's care on March 12, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born on January 6, 1943 in Kingston, Ontario, Al was predeceased by his parents Alfred Beaupré and Mary (Beau) Weyer. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Linda (Byford), his two children Bill Beaupré (Cumberland, Ontario) and Cheri Esber and her husband Randy (Newbury, Massachusetts). He is Grampy to their children Ethan and Renée. He is also survived by his sister Toni Young (Gananoque), Dianne Brick and her husband Jim (Edmonton, Alberta). Predeceased by brother Peter Beaupré and sister Margaret Brewer. Al is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Al followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, uncle and brother and joined the Canadian Correctional System in 1966. During his 33 year tenure in the service, Al worked as a Correctional Officer at three of the main institutions in the greater Kingston area including Collins Bay, Joyceville and Kingston. Al was a member of the Honour Guard and the dog handling unit. However, above all, his favourite was the Gun Team. Al won many gun awards and had the opportunity to travel to the Corrections Canada National Championship.
During retirement, Al busied himself with woodworking and home projects. As time passed, he found that he liked having a regular routine so he found a few part-time jobs before finding employment as a school bus driver for Clark's Bus Service. He truly enjoyed his time at Clark's.
When Al could no longer drive bus he discovered Facebook and Skype. He used both to keep in touch with all his family and also for entertainment. At the beginning of each day he would send a message to all his friends wishing them a good morning. During the evenings, Al was a regular at 'Timmies' where he could often be found sitting with family and friends sipping on a double-double.
More then anything, Al loved his wife Linda and was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was very close to all of his in-laws and felt that each of them were an extension of his immediate family. He had a great sense of humour and will be remembered for always trying to make people laugh. Al will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Tompkins Funeral Home 63 Garden St. Gananoque on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. John the Evangelist church on Tuesday March 16 at 11am. Interment St. John's cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the UHKF (Cancer centre) would be appreciated by the family.Online condolences at www.tompkinsfuneralhome.ca
