I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the memorial service for Mrs. Sparks. Forty odd years ago (oh how time flies) she was a very important part of my life. I remember how kind and giving she and Ernie Sr. were. They would always have a bunch of kids ranging in all ages hanging around the house. Mrs. Sparks made the best hamburgers, the best desserts (I remember the cinnamon buns made with the sourdough she kept alive somewhere in house), even the cow’s tongue was a culinary adventure that would never have happened at my house. The hot, slow, Sunday drives to Jone’s Falls or Brewer’s Mills so we kids could go swimming and enjoy a delicious picnic. Teaching us how to play canasta and other card games. Scolding us when we didn’t do our homework. Edythe was such a pleasant lady to be around. Even with the worries of Ernie’s chronic health problems and the dead animals kept in the basement freezer, I only remember seeing her upset once. I haven’t seen Mrs. Sparks in a few years, but I frequently look back at those years as a wonderful time in my life. I wish I could thank her. I think she knew. To Ernie, Betty and Mary I want to thank you for sharing your mother. All the best. Bryan Babcock
