My deepest sympathies to your family. I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Mike years ago in Petawawa and we deployed together to Bosnia and saw each other throughout the following years and most recently again here in Kingston. This is a very difficult time for your family, however, please know that Mike was admired by everyone who had the fortune to meet and work with him. He was one of the best NCMs in our Forces because he cared so much about his work and especially the men and women in uniform. I personally enjoyed every time we had the occasion to run into each other and the few minutes we could catch up on what was new. My heart goes out to all your family during these difficult days. May he rest in peace and we will always remember Mike.

Wendy, My condolences to you and your family on the passing of Michael. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Michael's passing. He was a man that had great pride for his family and his Military Career. A professional in every since of word. It was a pleasure to have served with him over the past years. It gave me great pleasure to hand over to him the duties as RSM of Technical Services Branch in Gagetown, NB. I knew they were in great hands. I smile when I think of the parade where as he was excepting the pace stick from LCol Regush I handed him a ringing cell phone with a call from the DCO. With great calm and poise he simply stated "I got this Brad" and fell in on parade. Thanks Wendy for the support of a great guy, Mike thanks for your dedication and service. RIP my friend we got this.

It was an absolute privilege to have crossed paths with Mike over the years. He was definitely a person who cared about people. He has had a significant impact on the lives of many, far too many to count. Although I am sad to hear of your passing Mike this clearly tells me you are very much needed elsewhere right now. May your impact on others continue in heaven. Until we meet again, R.I.P. RSM.

I am Michael's Aunt Helen. I have a memory of he and Jeannette, and I am pretty sure his cousins Mary and Dave, up at a summer resort , Grand Bend, Ont. We all thought it was the best place in the world. He would've been, maybe 6 or 7,
and the bunch of them collected buckets and buckets of toads from a nearby swamp. There were a LOT of toads. He had so much fun....typical boy.
It was recorded on home movies, the kind where you have to use a screen to see the moving pictures. Mike was a sweet and dear little boy. He grew up, moved away, we lost touch just because lthat's the way life is sometimes. But I am remembering the cute little blond boy from long ago, and my heart aches tonight, and for Wendy and Michael and Alex.

Mike and I were lucky enough to be the Command Team of the Technical Services Branch in Gagetown at a time when we had a Base Commander who wasn't big on sports events. Hence, we picked up the secondary duty of "Official Puck Droppers" on behalf of the Commander and managed to take in a few pond-hockey tournaments. As the Commander's representatives, we often had the use of his driver to get us to these events, which was a good thing considering Mike's navigation challenges.
With this challenge, Mike had developed an unwavering faith in his Garmin. Thanks to his belief that his Garmin could do no wrong, we had the opportunity to see more country back roads than your average traveller. We once had a simple task to travel from Base Gagetown to Sydney NS to represent the Commander at some event. For some this would be the time to break out a map, take a quick look and head off down the road…not Mike. About an hour down the road, Mike was still fine-tuning his Garmin to get the right view, voice and volume. It actually appeared for a while that his Garmin-love was well founded until we found ourselves, 5 hours later, on a secondary road with nothing in front of us except a single car ferry! Needless to say, this took a toll on his Garmin relationship. I have no doubt in my mind that Wendy navigated as they drove back to Ontario upon posting.
It was my honour and pleasure to have worked with him as the RSM of the Technical Services Branch. His leadership, loyalty and professionalism made him an excellent fire-team partner. I could always count on Mike to give me his honest council … even if it was to tell me how jacked-up my idea was!
A friend and a true professional, he will be missed.

While I was going through an incredibly frustrating time during my departure from the military college, CWO M.Beaulieu was kind enough to help me sort out my mess of a moving plan. He helped me sort through clerical issues as well as going so far as to take time out of his day to bring my bags up to base at the end of the whole ordeal. He has been an amazing help and I have heard nothing but praise for him and I offer my own. He will be sorely missed by many. My condolences.

Brenda and I have the fondest memories of going on Volksmarches with Mike, Wendy and my parents while in Germany in the late 1980's. One particular time we were walking up a Vinyard road and it was steep. At the time Brenda and I had 3 very young children (Megan, Ryan and Mitchell) and they came with us everywhere, even on the Volksmarches. Mike, Wendy, Brenda and my Mom and Dad were walking slightly ahead of me. Mike turned around and asked if I needed help with the kids but what he saw was that I had Ryan in the stroller, Megan on my shoulders and Mitchell in the bunting bag. I was carrying all of them at the same time and Mike just looked at me, smiled and said I was crazy...I was...but that's another story.
It may not be much of a story, but it is something that I think about from time to time and it always puts a smile on my face. We gained a lot of respect for each other..the kind one brother has for another and I always thought of Mike as my 3rd brother.
Rest in peace my brother.

We don't get a whole lot of snow in Gananoque, but when we do, it can be considerable. Such was the case, four years ago and we were snowed in.
While contemplating getting winter battle-dressed and a two-hour stress test between shovel and driveway, Mike and Son Alex appeared, accompanied by the din of Mike's snowblower in high gear. Alex was at the helm and under Mike's tutelage, they both made short work of the wind-whipped drifts of heavy dense snow.
Our offer of gratitude to pay Alex was strongly rebufffed. Mike's goal that morning was simple and sincere: to set an endearing and permanent example for Alex; to demonstrate the essence of good neighbourliness and citizenship, to put others before yourself, to rise to a need without being asked and to create goodwill without an expectation for reward. An act of sincere kindness, a helping hand.
Michael was a good neighbour and a proud father. As a metaphor, I believe Mike would always leave the campsite in better condition than he found it. Our world, our campsite, is not as welcoming a place without him and he will be sorely missed and forever remembered.
Yous Friends.
Edith, Robert and Jim Freeman
