Dear Kally,Chris,Karen,Paul,Katy and family, my sincere condolences to all of you. I have very fond memories of Hal while working at the Provincial Motel years ago as a teenager. He was a fun person to talk with and hear his interesting stories. He always made us front desk girls laugh. Hal was an inspiration to me and a very nice, kind and funny man who contributed so much in life, in so many ways. The Town of Gananoque is very fortunate to have had such a dedicated "Gan boy" accomplish so much for its progression. His business endeavours gave many people, tourists and residents, great enjoyment. A special one for me, was the zoo in town and the baby cubs he would bring to the motel to show the staff. You could see how much he loved animals. My thoughts are with you. May you feel his gentle, fun loving spirit watching over you and living in your hearts forever. Thinking of you, Deanna Kraus

Certainly my memories of Hal will be lasting and truly pleasant, a personified history lesson of the Islands and Gananoque usually popped up during our many conversations, along with his regular reports on the latest re Queen's football, tales and yarns about diving, the old Gananoque Zoo, his trips to the Galapagos, and his heart-felt stories of whales and how he truly felt they were a part of the universal plan. Perhaps in a small way right here in the 1000 Islands, Harold Alexander McCarney was part of an unrealized "universal plan" for more than a few of us. I will miss him very much. Friends ever, Jan

My sympathy to the family. Hal was an invaluable influential and dedicated coach ,mentor and alumnus to Queen's University Athletics and of course to so many beloved Golden Gaels football team members. As the Director of Athletics[now retired} at Queens I can say without hesitation that Hal believed in the "student-athletes" at Queens and was one of our most generous and dedicated alumni supporters that I ever had the pleasure of knowing.Hal will be missed by Queen's ,but never forgotten.

To the family of Mr. McCarney I have coached at Queen's for the past ten years and have always been impressed with the support of "Moose". His generosity and support in good times and not so good times was impressive. He always had time to chat with the assistant coaches and help us in any way he could. The evening meals that he presented to everyone on the team was a wonderful jesture by a wonderful person. I only learned that Hal was a grad of Loyola University this past week, I was a grad of Sir George Williams in Montreal that eventually became Concordia. I feel honoured to in some small way, through university and through Queen's football to have met and been able to know the gentle giant.

To the McCarney family It was with shock and great sadness that I read of Hal's passing today. He was one of a small handful of people who stayed in touch with dad when he wasn't able to drive anymore. I will forever hold Hal in my heart for that. In your own time, in your own way, may you find a place of healing in your heart. You have my deepest sympathy.

My thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family Chris. As a former “office girl” I have many wonderful memories of Hal. He was a kind, generous and loving man. I will especially never forget my high school graduation. Hal arranged for me to arrive at the high school on his fire engine, complete with balloons and a ‘throne’ on top for me to sit on! I will cherish that memory forever and it was all because of Hal and his family's generosity. Hal will forever be in our thoughts and will be missed by the entire community.
