Obituary of Margaret Watters

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Watters of Gananoque, Ontario passed away on February 14, 2015 at the home of her daughter with all five of her children at her side. Betty was born in Port Arthur on March 6, 1922, the only daughter of William and Margaret Attridge. Betty was the youngest by far of three children and as such, cared for both her parents at home until they died. She was also a much loved Aunt Betty to many nieces and nephews and she stayed in touch with them throughout her life. Betty married John Clifford (Bud) Watters on August 21, 1953 in Port Arthur, Ontario. In May of 1955 Bud joined the federal government as a Customs Officer, just in time for the birth of his and Betty's second child. Starting at the remote port of Pigeon River and moving both to Sault Ste. Marie and Gananoque, Betty managed to create warm and welcoming homes for her family after each move. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and baking but her most favourite pastime was looking after her family. Betty and Bud loved being retired and traveled for many years, celebrating their golden years together. They lived in their own home in Gananoque until February of 2009 when they moved to Fox Run Retirement Residence. Betty was predeceased by Bud, the love of her life in April 2012 in the 60th year of their marriage. She continued to live at Fox Run until moving in with her daughter and family in November 2014. Betty is survived by her five children, their partners and their families. Left to miss their wonderful Mom and Nanny are Kathleen and Steve Millen and Lee (Krista) and Kyle; Glenn and Carolyn Watters and Tabitha (Graeme Schnarr) and Taylor; Susan and Gene Steacy and Natasha (Evan Poll) and Sheena Mosier (Mark Freeland); Barbara and Terry Ubdegrove and Bradley, Sean (Meagan) and Geoffrey (Courtney Purvis); and Janet Ritchie and Alex. Betty was the very proud great-grandmother of six: Bella Mosier, Lily and David Poll, Bentley and Charlie Ubdegrove and Jayna Millen. Betty had many nieces and nephews but she especially enjoyed her talks and visits with Georgina Attridge, John Attridge and Maureen and Matti Alanen. Respecting Betty's wishes, her funeral arrangements were handled privately for the family by Tompkins Funeral Home in Gananoque, Ontario. Interment and a Celebration of Betty's life will be held at a later date. Donations in Betty's name can be made with our gratitude to the Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice. Betty's family and friends will remember her devotion to her family, her beautiful smile and her kind and caring nature. Love you forever.
