Obituary of Allan Griff

Griff: Allan Ross 1926 to 2014 Allan Ross Griff, 87, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2014, at The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa. Ross was born November 3, 1926 in Durham, Ontario to Hattie and Harry Griff and was raised in Stratford. He spent much of his life in the Thousand Islands area. He also lived and worked in Northern Ontario, Naples, Florida and Costa Rica. Together with his first wife, Patricia Lucille (Potter), Ross had five children: Gale (Ricardo Dores) of Cornwall; Debbie (Steve Brown) of Ottawa; Doug (Maria Cavallini) of Naples, Florida; Mark (Nicole Nicholson) of Merrickville; and, Penny (Neil Barnes) of Calgary, Alberta. Ross was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Lenny, Cassy, Kate, Becky, Mitchell, Sam, Eric, Emma, Chrissy, Maggie and Sarah; as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Manny and Haven. Ross was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Ellen Lyda (Brown) of Stratford, Ontario. He is survived by sisters Joan and Nancy, and predeceased by siblings Eric, Jack, Stuart, Leah and Wilma. Hard working and fun loving, Ross will be remembered fondly by family and friends. He will be laid to rest beside Pat in an informal ceremony at the Gananoque Cemetery at noon on Saturday, July 5th, followed by a celebration of Ross' life at 1pm at the Smuggler's Glen Golf Course (409 Thousand Islands Parkway, Gananoque). In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa where he lived out his final days with dignity thanks to the outstanding care of the staff.
