Elaine and family, The Delaney families have always been a guiding light in this town...Fred's seems to have been the brightest! His quiet Christian faith shone to others, giving hope, guidance and love to all he encountered. Elaine, you have been a rock for Fred through all these times. Dick & I will always remember the enjoyable time we spent with Fred in 'decyphering' the original deed for first St. John the Evangelist Church built in 1846 on King St. I know Fred was thrilled at perusing it. May his light shine down on all of you. God Bless

Thank yoy, Elaine and family for sharing Fred with the people of Gananoque. Fred made a positive impact on so many people. His drive and leadership enabled the Jr B Team to be successfull on and off the ice. His " Mayor's Golf Tournament " gave many young players the sponsorship funds that kept down the cost of playing. I will be forever greatful for knowing Fred and share in your loss.

My sincere condolences to Elaine and her family on the loss of Fred. I had the good fortune to deal with him frequently not only in his professional capacity, but also often for lunch or just to pass the time of day on the street. He knew everyone in Town and had a keen interest in their welfare without regard to their station in life. His good humour and cheerful disposition will be greatly missed.

I ran into Fred at the hospital when he and I were both there for treatment a few months ago. While his wife was parking the car, I grabbed the back of Fred's wheelchair and said "hold on, we're going for a spin". Imagine Fred in a wheelchair and this bald lady ripping up the hallway! He laughed and he told me how grateful he was for the care the staff provided at the hospital. I had to agree. Then he said something that has resonated with me ever since. It made me think about if I knew I only had 7 more years to live, what would my priorities be and would I have any regrets in the end? I've thought about it almost daily ever since. I will always remember your words and know they will keep me in check. I thank you for that.

I is with great sadness that I just learned of Fred's passing. Many fond memories flooded my mind but none as vivid as those at the old Wellington Street rink and the new Community centre. Fred was a formidable presence on the ice and the hardest hitter I ever ran into on the ice but after the hardest fought games the comraderie and laughs always prevailed. I will never forget Fred's warm smile, which he so generously shared with all he met, and his genuine concern for others. He was always a friend who never has a harsh word to say about anyone and looked for the best in everyone. He will be missed as a devoted father, husband and civic minded individual who loved our town. My sincere condolences to you Elaine and family at this time of sadness and loss. Fred fought a great battle and never once place concern for himself above that for his family. Keep your head up and your stick on the ice Fred and may you rest in peace my friend.

I am looking out my window at a sign on the local drug store which reads simply “Fred. Our Friend.” It is the store which Elaine works at and about a year ago I was shuffling by when I was hailed by Fred, who was propping himself against the window sill while he waited in the sun for his wife. I joined him and we spoke for perhaps ten minutes. I remember him wryly acknowledging that his prospects were not good. I regret that I did not visit Fred often enough after his retirement, and that I only did so after being prompted - normally by Fred himself. He certainly did not go gently into that good night. But nor did he rage. He seemed more concerned with others than with himself. His example has encouraged me. Colin Wright

For the past eighteen years I faced Fred as an opponent in the criminal courts of Leeds and Grenville. From our time together at the Gananoque court house (with the walls that didn't reach the ceiling) to more recent times doing pretrials in the boisterous conference room at the court in Brockville, I always enjoyed Fred's company. He knew his clients and his community and how best to serve them. Fred always had a story or a joke to tell and he was always in good humor. We could fight like cats and dogs and yet we remained friends knowing the difference between work and life. He was a great outdoorsman and sports fan. Most of all he was a great family man. He was very proud of his children that he spoke of them and their progress through life often. I did not meet Elaine until this past year. Visiting your house I could see how much you loved each other and what a source of strength you were to each other. I admire you both.

Elaine, Megan and Peter: Fred was that rare kind of lawyer that everyone could get along with. We tend to be an arrogant bunch, but Fred was anything but that. If a person couldn’t get along with Fred, there had to be something wrong with them. Beloved by his clients and his colleagues, Fred was one of the last true general practitioners. He did everything: criminal, civil, family, estates and real estate. God rest you, Fred. As Rob Horton said above, you were one of the good guys. Dear Elaine and Family, I can state without hesitation I and all that knew Freddy will feel a great loss in his passing. I have known and respected Fred since commencing practice and our relationship would develop over the following years to one which I enjoyed greatly. Many golf games, a few beverages and many laughs, which could often be heard in other counties. Fred was truly one of the good guys, a trusting, caring and warm hearted soul who gave far more than he ever looked for in return. God's speed my friend.

Fred, Elaine and Your Family. You are dearly loved and not alone at this sad time. Fred did so much good for so many, it our turn to help you and we do share your burden. From his many visitors and the kind words now being written, it is clear, as we all know, Fred is a respected, loved good guy. He didn't ask for that, but he earned it. He contributed to so many lives in so varied good ways, yet even in his ill health, i never heard him ask for anything for himself. That is a quality of a good person. Elaine, you are loved and admired and respected for your strength and courage. No word of complaint and always there for Fred. Again, the mark of a good person.
