Thanks to Pat and Gerry Flood for letting us know of this obviously delightful woman. Anna's mother "Aunt Bertie" was loved by my grandmother (Clara (Sidley) Foley and she told me about her when I was growing up. My great grandmother Ellen (Flood) Sidley (Bert's sister) would be Anna's Aunt and my grandmother her cousin which would make me a 3rd cousin(?). It is amazing to look at her picture because she looks so much like my grandmother and it sounds like a very similar personality...and it was a wonderful one and a very funny lady. My grandma lived to be 91 and died in 1983...I still miss her very much to this day as I am sure you will miss Anna...but the memory of them will keep them in our hearts. All of the best to you from your cousins down south of the border.

I will remember Ana as a very thoughtful lady.
I met Ana when a mutual friend's husband died.I was a young Mom then,& was in awe at how Ana helped her through the grieving process.
Years later our son married into the Shortall _ Hunt family. Ana contacted me with kind words & welcomed us to the family.
My Mother was admitted to Carveth with demencia. I was confident in the competent & compassionate care the staff gave, but it was still difficult leaving her at the end of my visits. Very often, Ana would appear & with empathy & love reasure me that Mom would be fine.
I will never forget her kindness.
Sincerely.
Beverley Wallis.

Sincere sympathy to all of Ana's family and friends. Ana will be remembered as a lovely lady with a beautiful smile. I have fond memories of Ana when I worked at the Bank and most recently in the past yr at Carveth Care Centre, when visiting my Mom, I always stopped by Ana's room or the dining area for a visit and a chat. May we all be blessed with such a long and wonderful life.

In the spirit of celebrating a long life well-lived, I'd like to offer this reminiscence of Anna McGlade.
It was the fall of 1966, just after American Labor Day, the perfect time for a road trip. Most students were back in school, but fortunately for me, Wayne State University was on the quarter system and classes were still three weeks away. I had money in my pocket from my job at a local bookstore (people buying racing forms at 5 a.m. were generous tippers) and a good friend, Eric, to share the driving with me. We had no set itinerary; our general plan, despite the changing seasons, was to drive north into Canada. All of Ontario fit into two pages of the Rand McNally map and there were plenty of provincial parks. We decide to travel light--no tent, no stove, nothing except sleeping bags and an old frying pan.
With great enthusiasm, we set off along roads lined with golden fields of drying corn and ripening pumpkins. Through Kincardine, past Owen Sound, on to Algonquin Provincial Park. The farm fields turned to dark conifer forests and night temperatures dropped sharply. Frost saturated our sleeping bags and the skies turned aluminum-gray. "Closed for the season" signs blocked the entrances to all those parks on the Rand McNally map.
Scanning the map, I noticed a familiar name: Gananoque! We would visit Anna and Hugh! They had been so welcoming two years before when I had been in town for Helen and Larry's wedding. So two weeks into our great camping adventure, Eric and I were knocking on the door of the McGlade house on Stone Street.
Anna opened the door and seemed puzzled by the dirty, unshaved figures on the porch. When I introduced myself, she burst into a warm smile. "Well, my goodness, it's Denis! Where have you lads been?" Immediately, we were invited in, warmed with coffee, and assigned an upstairs bedroom. Dirty clothes were deposited outside the door on the way to Anna's washing machine. And when Hugh came in that evening, he was greeted with "You won't believe who's here!"
We left two days later, warmed and well-fed, the beneficiaries of generous hospitality. Thank you, Anna, for your remarkable kindness.

Anna worked with Richard from 1971 to 1975 at the Co-op store in Gananoque. While she worked on the books, Richard was a fieldman. Her brother, Eddie Shortall, worked there as well. Great company to work with!
She was a smart little cookie all her life, always a smile to share!

I offer my sincerest condolences to Mrs. McGlade's family on her passing. It was marvellous to read the story of her life and a fitting tribute to a life well lived by a very sweet lady. I used to love to have Anna come into the town hall and have a nice conversation with her. She is one of those people who always brought a smile to your face because she was always smiling and happy. A lovely lady any time I had the privilege of speaking with her and she will be missed.
