Higgins: Mary Elizabeth

Mary died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on May 20th, 2023 surrounded by her daughter’s Patty, Susan, and son John. She was the oldest of four children born to Bernard and Delia (Bridget) Lasha, a Titanic survivor. As Mary’s mother was a Titanic survivor she self produced a small book “Unsinkable” Bridget in her 50’s which the printer delivered to her the day the Titanic was found. Since that time she has received countless recognition from radio stations, TV and especially CBC documentary Doc Zone, and Local Lions Club chapters, etc. She was also invited to Branson Missouri to be honored with other families on the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic. Mary was a good wife, mother, and grandmother.  Mom loved to be outdoors with nature where she was close to wildlife. She worked tirelessly down at her beautiful water garden and tending to her flowers every year. She was so proud of her home especially the backroom kitchen where she would sit in her chair and watch the birds, see the boats go up the Gananoque River, listen to the Blue Jays Game on the radio and warm by the fire with Tippy by her side. Our family pets Tippy, Mickey, Bingo, and Harry will be missed greatly especially our champion Springer Spaniel Tippy who was devoted to mom every day. Predeceased by her loving husband John (Jack) in 2008. Survived by her children, Patricia Pilon, Christopher, Susan, and John Higgins. Grandson Phillip (Christine) Pilon. Great-Grandchildren Devin and Kierston Pilon, predeceased by son-in-law Andre Pilon, brother John, sister Rose Keates, survived by sisters Joan, Deano plus many nieces and nephews. Best friend Rita (Nalon) Siegner. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Kingston General Hospital in the Emergency Department and also the Leeds and Grenville Ambulance for the care that they gave mom on Saturday. In keeping with Mary’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private burial to be held at St. Johns Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Gananoque District Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
