Obituary of Marilyn Hardy
Hardy: Marilyn
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Hardy of Gananoque Ontario on April 21, 2023, she was 80 years young. She is sorely missed by her son Mathew and his wife Melissa and her two beloved grandchildren Isabella and Michael. Kay Olmstead (sister-in-law), Lucy Olmstead (sister-in-law) and Ronnie McCrea (brother-in-law) and many adoring nieces and nephews. Marilyn was born and raised in Ottawa where she went to teachers college and became worlds best and most fun kindergarten teacher for 26 years. She and her husband Donald Hardy (predeceased in 2013) had a summer place on Hill Island and quickly fell in love with the river and boating, they both retired early to be able to move to the river full time. Marilyn was passionately involved in social groups, she was the life of any party, she loved to have a good time and to make people laugh. She was able to see the humor in any situation and reminded us to do the same. She was forever coming up with fun ideas for parties, or get togethers, most recently, she had a “Thirsty Thursday” group at Fox Run where she lived in one of the garden homes, and would have a glass or glasses of Pinot Grigio with friends and neighbors who became friends. She loved the theatre and going on cruises. She was part of the Thousand Island Belles, a Red Hat Group in the early 2000’s. She loved to play tennis, golf and was an avid bridge player. After her Donny passed she started a widows group in town for other mourning widows, this group (her friends) was so very dear to her. Her sweet dog Willow, family and friends were her most important treasures, she had many lifelong friendships. Marilyn was the youngest of four and she was sadly pre-deceased by all her siblings. Bill Olmstead, Lauri McCrea, and Rick Olmstead. The family will receive friends at the Tompkins Funeral Home 63 Garden Street Gananoque on Saturday April 29 from 11 am until time of service in our chapel at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Pinecrest cemetery Ottawa on Monday. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
