When I first became a born again Christian, Mrs DeVries never hesitated to tell me exactly what I was saying wrong or doing wrong, sometimes she could be blunt but I always knew where I stood and I truly have some fond memories of her correction, I learned to love her loud whispers in church, she will be missed. My deepest sympathy to Henry, Lee and family!!

When I think of Mrs. DeVries, and I do often, I remember being there for meals and after we ate, the Daily Bread, which was never far away, was read and we would pray. I remember a devoted wife and mother and grandmother and great grandmother that kept me up to date with the tally of her offspring in either a Christmas card or a birthday card. I remember a woman that thanked me regularly for something I did over 25 years ago. My ministry now is with women that have been in prison and at times it can be discouraging. Last week I was searching my memory for someone that had a positive attitude and wasn't given to complaining and Mrs. DeVries came almost immediately to mind. She was blunt and generous and faithful and full of faith and could laugh and she knew what the main thing was. I'm richer for knowing her and feel the loss of her, even though I know it's only for a while. She leaves a wonderful legacy to the world through her children, their spouses and children and great grandchildren and I pray the comfort of God will be theirs as they grieve and celebrate this lovely woman.
