A beautiful note from Mom's friend Margrit Choy:
THE LITTLE GIRL
Mary and I met at the bottom of Florence Street when the little girl was just a puppy. Mary was trying to get her reluctant dog to walk down the hill. She was prodding it along with her cane. I was using my best persuasive skills to get my mentally disabled daughter to walk up the hill to visit her sister for lunch. Mary turned around and we joined forces to walk the girls up the hill to their respective destinations. After a brief introduction we started chatting and became instant friends. Learning that our daughters name was Laura, Mary shared with us her sorrow of losing her daughter Laurie. Over the years we visited each other and eventually Mary trusted me enough to let me look after her little girl. Little girl came with a list of instructions regarding food, pills, allergies. You name it we followed it. Shyanne, also known as P2, did not like me one bit. The first time we took care of her she sat by the front door crying the whole time. Believe it or not she refused to eat! Over time P2 decided that we were not all that bad and Mary would come back and pick her up again. I dare say she even started to enjoy the visits. We have a busy household with people and dogs in and out every day. Well you know the rest of the story. Mary phoned us once from her new home at Rideaucrest. She was short and to the point. She asked if her little girl was staying with us. After reassuring her that P2 was safe and sound and would stay with us, she asked me to please indulge her with some hot dog once in a while. She then hung up the phone. Needless to say we now have hot dogs in the fridge at all times.
We are truly sorry for the loss of your dear mother. We would like to attend any celebration of her life but I know that she would prefer me to stay and look after her beloved pet.
We now have a little dog to love and cherish but to me she will always be Mary’s LITTLE GIRL.
