I have known Ruth my entire life. She married my grandfather in 1975 – when I was only three years old. For many years she and my grandad lived just down the street from us. She was always outside, tending to her beautiful gardens.. Not a single weed to be found! She loved the home she shared with my Grandad and I truly cherish the memories there. I can still smell the delicious meals she would whip up for us on cold winter nights and the summer BBQs where all the kids, grandkids and great grandkids would gather to celebrate my grandad’s birthday. She sure knew how to cook!
I am so grateful that my daughter had the chance to get to know Ruth. They met when she was a newborn and Ruth got to watch her grow into the chatty six year old she is today. She too shares in our grief, but as she so simply and beautifully said, “it’s okay mom – Grams is with Gramps, again”.
We will miss you, Aunt Ruth. Rest in Peace <3

As I considered which memory to share, I leaned more and more towards thoughts of holiday dinners where Aunt Ruth always sat in the middle of the table…giggling. She got a kick out of the family’s antics and her laughter always spurred us on. Though quiet by nature, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren allowed her to “break out”, too. She raised the roof a time or two, and was very much a part of all the fun. COVID may have taken away our opportunity to continue the family gatherings but it hasn’t stolen our memory of the joy we all shared, when getting together was the norm. ‘Aunt Ruth’ your place at the table will always be set (Carrie); ‘Grams, we’ll miss your smile!’ (Michael, Mac, Mallorie). xo
