Vilda Perkins (Gloria Chapman)

Passed away peacefully on Oct 15, 2022, at the age of 100 in the Symphony Senior Living Kanata residence.

She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Perkins. Vilda is survived by her 5 children Brian Perkins (Lynda), Geri Major (Ken), Ted Perkins, Robert Perkins (Zarina), and Tony Perkins. She was loved by her many grand and great grandchildren. Vilda was born in Musgravetown near Bonavista Bay in Newfoundland.  As a teenager she went to Montreal to work as a seamstress.  When Canada entered the Second World War she moved to Gananoque to take a position as a supervisor in the parachute factory.  There she met her husband, Wilfred.  They were married in 1944. In 1946 Wilfred and Vilda were on the first trans-Atlantic convoy returning to England.  They remained in England for 2 years before emigrating to Gananoque with their two young children, Brian and Geri.  To accommodate their growing family they purchased a home on Stone Street and moved it to Fourth Street, building additions over the years. Vilda and Wilfred welcomed 3 more children and all remember a childhood growing up on the banks of the Gananoque River.  Wilfred and Vilda were active members of the Gananoque Legion.  After Wilfred died Vilda moved to Crow Lake and spent winters in Panama City, Florida. She returned to Gananoque in 1998 where she resided before moving to Ottawa in 2010 to be close to her daughter.
