Sending huge hugs and tons of love during your time of tremendous loss my friend. Ron was a wonderful man with an unforgettable sense of humour which made me laugh every time we had a visit. He had a great love of life but he had a greater love for you! The two of you together were an inspiration and an example of what a devoted and happy marriage looked like. I know with that comes a great sorrow now that he’s gone. I’m thinking of you with shared sadness and support.
Love Judy

Dear Penny, My sincerest condolences on your loss of Ron. I also worked at Agriculture Canada with Ron in Information Division (and I remember you and your lovely hair and smile, but not where you worked in the department). I remember Ron addressing everyone (except you) as "Hey Kid" - not as an insult but as his friendly way of saying "Hi". I remember how well Ron managed the Addressograph and Mailing gang in the basement of the Sir John Carling Building. He was always able to get the Minister's Speeches and Press Releases printed and mailed out on time - even if our deadlines were outrageous (the Eugene Whelan speeches were never-ending and always Urgent, for some reason). Ron had a great relationship with the Printing Bureau staff in SJCB as well as with his challenging mailing team. I remember how Ron would roll up his sleeves and help his staff manually stuff Speeches into their envelopes so that they would make the next mail run. Yes, Ron loved his music - I remember him talking about his band and their gigs. "Drummer Boy" was aptly named! Ron always had a smile on his face and a joke to get us laughing! He also had a good whistle, especially when it was you walking down the hall - lol! I also remember how Ron would calm us down if things were getting hectic - he'd say "take a seat and relax for a minute - life's too short kid!". Ron so looked forward to his time on his boat - summer weekends couldn't come soon enough! Cherish you memories of a great man and take care of yourself. Donna Scullion-Patterson

Penny, Claudette and I are so sad about Ron's departure and want to wish you the very best for the future. Ron and I go back 65 years when he was a typing pool supervisor with the Department of Agriculture and I was a pressman. We were always close even after working hours. Ron initiated me in hunting. Numerous weekends we hunted together from Gracefield Quebec to the St Lawrence Seaway hunting partridges, ducks and geese. Ron was a perfectionist, he showed me how to use a shotgun properly and always had new hunting methods to improve better results. Also, we will never forget our camping and boating together at Bon Echo and lac Simon. How much fun we all had together.
