Obituary of Dwayne Alvin Reed

Please share a memory of Dwayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dwayne A Reed, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 4, 2022 at the Trent Valley Lodge in Trenton. He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Nora (Saunders). Dwayne was the proud father of two sons, David (Katrien) and Paul (Melanie), and adoring grandfather to Benjamin, Ella, Connor, Charlie, and step-grandchildren Emily and Owen Ford. Dwayne will also be missed by his only brother Roger Reed (Barb), and nieces Angela and Sarah. Left to grieve Dwayne’s passing as well are his brother-in-law Doug Bickerton (Ann, deceased) and his nieces and nephew, Laurie, Holly and Steven Bickerton. Dwayne was predeceased by his parents Blain and Joy Reed and sister-in-law, Ann Bickerton.

Dwayne & Nora were both born and raised in Gananoque and lived there until their move to Belleville four years ago. Dwayne was a Chartered Accountant who began his career at the office of William H. Buttrey and latterly worked with his friend David Abeles in their joint accounting firm. He practised for 47 years. He was a proud member of the Gananoque Lions Club and attended Christ Church where he did the annual audit for many years..

Before Parkinson’s disease took a toll on Dwayne, he loved to water ski, downhill ski, play squash with his friend Michael Caswell and golf with his brother Roger and son Paul. All three achieved holes-in-one.

Dwayne’s favourite place in the world was the family’s cottage on Charleston Lake. For 45 years it was the summer hub for family and friends, and will continue to be an important destination for the family.

Dwayne was a gentle man and a gentleman. He never waivered from his values of kindness, honesty and family first. He was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dwayne’s memory is invited to consider Christ Church Memorial Fund in Gananoque or the Gleaner’s Food Bank in Belleville, or the charity of your choice. Due to Covid restrictions, the family will hold a private committal of ashes. Thank you to the exceptional staff at Trent Valley Lodge for providing such loving care.
