In the sadness that we feel hearing this news, we would also like to acknowledge the wonderful memories that we have of Joey in his role as a coach for our young paddlers, his exuberance with his family and all the youth around him, and his zest for life. Our deepest condolences to everyone.

I was saddened to learn of Joey's passing. Joey was a coach to me and my teammates at the Rideau canoe club in the 80s. He was always smiling and cheerful no mater the circumstances. His strongest suit was coxing our war canoes, for which he was a great motivator. As it happens, I was able to reconnect briefly with Joey during a visit to Gananoque a few years or so ago, he was good spirted as usual. Condolences to Joey's family. Rest in Peace Joey!

Joey was our Coach at Gananoque Canoe Club when our children Whitney and Trever paddled. His brilliant smile shall always be remembered. I was Commodore at the time and Joey was always the professional; he loved working with the kids. Thank you Joe, my condolences to his family. Emily Bell

I’m sad to hear of Joey’s passing. I hope his family will find comfort in their memories.
His megawatt smile and fun loving attitude were infectious.
I have many fond memories from the Canoe Club; Joey was our coach and friend; he always pushed us to work hard and do our best but he always made sure we had fun.

So very sorry and sad to learn Joey has passed on. Growing up on pine street in gananoque with the truesdale’s is a memory which is deeply rooted within my life…I smile when I think about Joe playing hockey with us on the street or on our backyard rink…Joe was exceptional with a hockey stick…and earned a nickname..”chopper”…no one got by joe without paying a price…
I am and was so proud of joe when he competed for the mayor of Gananoque..in the past municipal election…gan missed a glorious opportunity of having a pine street river rat mayor…Joe’s campaign lives on with us….I will always remember Joe..

Chris and I were sorry to hear Joe lost his battle with cancer and send our sincere condolences to his family. Joe was a true "River Rat and Gan Boy". I remember one "Day Off" ball game when Joe asked where Chris was and I told him working. He asked if I had a ride over to the Rock later that day (which I didn't) and offered to pick me up. I was so thankful that he asked and for the ride, we had a great day as always on the Rock. On our ride back to Gan I thanked him and he said with that big grin no problem at all, that is what friends do. So many great memories..Catharine & Chris Wright
