We, the Wanamaker cousins, go back a long way with the 3 Martin boys, as you can see in this vintage photo, circa 1958, which was probably taken just before we created havoc somewhere else in the house. That's Jane W. on the left, Rusty, Bob, Don, and Glenn W. on the right. My thoughts are with you, Kathy, Jen, Thomas, Bob and Don. It's hard when we can't see and hug each other right now. Take care of each other, until we can have a proper Celebration of Rusty's life in the coming months. Much love,Glenn

So sorry to hear of Rusty's passing. I have such fond memories of Rusty when we were working at Dairy Queen (45 years ago!). He would have me in stitches some evenings while we were cleaning up/closing the store at night. One time, he was cleaning out/emptying the Mr. Misty machine into a container. He ended up with small tub overflowing with all the flavoured ice and with a devilish grin on his face, he let out this huge laugh, and asked "Would you like that dipped (in chocolate)?" We all roared laughing. He made it a fun place to work and kept us all entertained.
More recently, Rusty was a great friend to my brother, Craig, who often spoke to me about their get togethers in Rusty's garage and at his home. I'm so glad Craig was part of Rusty's bubble over this past year. The two of them supported each other over these past few years and especially during this pandemic. I know Craig will miss his conversations and time spent with Rusty and how much he appreciated Rusty's great friendship.
My sincere condolences to Rusty's whole family.

I am lucky enough to call Rusty my uncle and "Great Rusty" as my babes call him.
The Martin Family have always been good to me, our family, their friend group which stretches wide and the Gan community. I am grateful for many a good times with Rusty and will always remember his smile and amazing sense of humour, his love for hockey and his legendary man cave. He took us out in the boat on one of our last trips to Canada. Good times! He loved the river and the cottage quite a lot.
My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time especially my second mom, Aunt Kathy. Gosh I wish I could hug you right now. Also dear Jen, Thomas, Bob & Don and your families. Rusty will be missed so very much.
Lots of Love
Lindsay, Jarod, Neve and Aidan xx

As one of Rusty's nieces, I'll remember him fondly as one who always had the best jokes in the room and a light-hearted, easy-going nature. He will be missed by all. I'm grateful he was able to have such a special celebration for his birthday a couple years back for his 60th, for I'm sure it helped him realize just how special he is to everyone.

It is hard to think about Rusty without cracking a smile. My memories are of a kind, welcoming, caring guy – who was always up for some fun, a chat, a laugh – usually all 3 at the same time. I loved seeing all the photos you posted Don. I remember that orange and brown rugby shirt. And I especially love the one of him and Lo. Sending hugs to Kathy, Jen, Tom, Don and Bob – and the rest of the family.

In the early '90's, Chase Martin Equipment, in its earliest of days, was a faithful supporter of The Rideau Review, in its earliest of days. From that relationship, "Rusty Martin was not defined by what he was but rather who he was. He was kind, compassionate, helpful, considerate, hard working, fun-loving and fiercely loyal," resounds even now and with particular sadness. Almost 30 years on, I not only remember Rusty, but remember him as a truly good man. My sincere sympathies to you and the family, Cathy. David Morris

Geography kept us from seeing each other as often as cousins should while we were growing up, but I remember our infrequent visits to Montreal and Gan fondly. Rusty was always friendly, kind, and quick with a smile and a laugh. He will be missed.

Rusty - a man who exemplified the true meaning of “friend” with all of the qualities we wish we could emulate as well as he did: honest- accepting - non judgemental - low maintenance - loyal to a fault - trustworthy and respecting! A trust that was never questionable. And don’t forget humour - I can see and hear that laugh and shake of the head looking downward but never a bad word spoken of anyone. And in many cases - we may have deserved it! Boy did we have some great and wild fun times at your welcoming home Kathy! To Tom and Jen & the grandkids - your dad and Poppa is a legend of the greatest and most humble kind. A great friend to all he met and I was lucky enough to be one of his many. May you find comfort in all that he stood for and all that he brought to our lives. Xo
