I am deeply saddened to learn of Bill's recent passing. Bill was like a second father to me growing up.....boating on the river in the St. Lawrence skiff, golfing in Goldboro, NS, playing handball , or just hanging out at 50 Ontario Street.
My sincerest condolences to Eleanor, Mary, Yvonne, and families....my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Dear Mary and Yvonne,
My memories of Bill go back to the late 50's/early 60's when my Dad and Bill would go trout fishing for a week every year in May after tax season. Then I started playing ping pong against him and Charlie Kirkby and my Dad at Charlie's house near ours on Pine St. Bill asked me one evening if I'd ever thought of Accounting as a career and after grade 13 he hired me as an accounting student. Eventually (5 year program) in 1968 I graduated and Bill and I remained friends all those years since.
When we returned to Gan in 1973, my wife Chris and I were neighbours of your family on Steele St so she got to know them as well.
All the best memories of a super guy and a super couple.
Our most sincere condolences to you both and your families.

Mrs. B., Mary, Yvonne and families. Please accept my condolences. Mr. B. was a true gentleman and a highly regarded citizen of Gananoque. I was able to see him frequently at Carveth before my retirement and enjoyed many conversations with him. I am sure your many memories will help sustain you at this sad time. Ann Ladouceur.

Bill was my first Boss in 1958 as this shy country girl moved to Gananoque to work for Ward and Buttery. He was such a kind man and was instrumental in my moving to work for Mitchell and Wilson Ltd. Where I enjoyed doing accounting for 34 years which was he knew was my first interest. We have remained dear friends all these years. I have never met a man I admired more than Bill. A warm, kind, gentle man to many people. Marilyn McDougal

I remember Mr. Buttrey well from my childhood growing up in the "Skelding" subdivision. Sliding down Maple Street hill in the black toboggan was a highlight of our winter fun. JIM Buttrey was a special friend to all who knew him and he is sadly missed by all who were privileged to know him. My sincere condolences to the family at this time of loss.

For many years, Mr. Buttrey was the accountant retained by my parents; they held him in very high regard. After the devastating fire at Grace United Church in 1979, they often credited Mr. Buttrey with having the foresight and business acumen to ensure the church was adequately insured, which enabled the church to rebuild. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Buttrey and the rest of the family.
