To the family of Norman Buist,
I am so sorry to hear about the death of Norm. Ken and I knew the Buist from the military. Ken and Norm were posted in various places together. We lived in Landsdowne and they lived in Gananoque and both worked in Kingston. Ken also has passed away on the 16th of January. His last week was spent at St. Joseph's Hospice in London, ON. Ken also had Alzheimer's. I am still living in London near one of our daughters. Our oldest son Russel retired from the military 2 years ago.
May Norm and Ken rest in peace.

To Diane, Family Members & Friends,
Muriel and I were deeply saddened by the news of Norm's passing. We will remember him as a gentle giant with a quick wit and a good sense of humour. We remember the time, quite a few years ago, when we were visiting you on your farm in Gananoque Half way through our patio BBQ meal, without saying anything, Norm quickly jumped up from the table and hurried in to the house. When he came back outside, he was wearing an orange hunting vest and carrying a shotgun. If I remember correctly, I think he also had on a matching orange ball cap. After taking careful aim towards his nearby vegetable garden, he pulled the trigger. Within seconds following the loud 'BOOM' he proudly exclaimed, I have been after that waskilly wabbit for a long, long time. I don't know how many times I have told that story, but it always gives everyone a laugh. Thank you Norm, for the memories and thank you for your unconditional friendship.

To Diane, Norman Jr., Ted, Terry, Family Members & Friends,
The members of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association were deeply saddened by the news of Norm's passing. Big Norman, (as he was affectionately known by his fellow Radioman Special / Communicator Research peers and co-workers), was a dedicated leader and highly respected friend. We will forever remember our years of military service and all of the fond memories that were shared in Gloucester, Gander, Masset, Alert, Kingston and other SUPRAD Stations. One thing we know for sure, was that when Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Norman Buist, instructed someone to do something, they did not have to be told twice! Our SUPRAD Oldtimers Association members will be meeting at the Leitrim All Ranks Mess on the 11th of February 2020. At this get-together, we will remember our good friend Norm, share some favourite stories (I am pretty sure there will be lots of them) and have a beer. As we are all members of your extended military family, please know that we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

"Did you just call me Captain Beast?" I'm not entire sure of the quote but it was something like that. It's been a while. RIP Norm, I always thought very highly of you.

Norm was my shift supervisor in Gander 1968. One evening, at a Mess function, he introduced me to a young girl who was a neighbor of his. 50 years later, that young girl and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and I will always be grateful to Norm for the gesture. Norm and I crossed paths again during our military careers in both Masset and Kingston. I will always remember him as a great leader and always a good friend. Our thoughts are with Dianne and the family in this most difficult of times. Fair Winds Sailor
