Dear Carmen and family,
It's been almost a quarter century since our pleasant collaboration, Carmen, on the 60th anniversary Transport Canada Choir performance. I too was surprized and saddened to hear of Ron's passing as I had lost touch with him in the last decade. As a fellow RMC alumnus and having also served in the Air Force, Ron was a great mentor to me and truly knew the people he interfaced with. Before we even met, he took a chance on me and soon after, offered me an amazing opportunity to take on a key project for him and the Safety & Security Group which I thoroughly enjoyed and in which I thrived.
In the ensuing years, we kept in touch and he was always pleased to act as a reference and sounding board for opportunities that I was considering. He had a great approach to everything and so it was a treat to exchange thoughts and to explore issues with him.
Were it not for the baptism of the first Canadian-born daughter of a Syrian refugee family we've gotten to know through our church sponsorship, I had planned on going to Gananoque for Ron's celebration of life. I hope we can be in touch about how this went and how you are faring as your first Christmas without him approaches.
God bless,
Eric

Deepest sympathies Carmen and Alex. I have had the double honor of working with Ron at Transport and playing with him as a friend. He was a great boss-smart, approachable and with a great sense of humour. We've sailed the St. Lawrence together many times, played hockey and tennis and enjoyed family celebrations where there was always a beer or two. On Ron's desk at work he kept a beautiful model of the Avro Arrow and I feel it truly represented him in life. Canadian made whose demise came way too early!

Both my husband and I were so very saddened to learn of Ron's death. We each had the privilege of working with Ron, either in Transport or the Privy Council Office.. As a former Director of Appointments in the PMO, my job was made easier by Ron's wisdom and his great good humour- no matter the crisis. He was widely admired and respected by all who knew him. We send our deepest sympathy and love to Carmen and the family. Thank you for sharing him with the Government of Canada.

My deepest condolences. Ron and I were together at RMC for a short time but in 1965 to 1967 we were at Cold Lake as young RCAF officers. His friendship helped make that time a very positive experience for me. It doesn't surprise me that he went on to have a great career and a wonderful family.

What a sudden and tragic loss. Ron was truly a great man loved and respected by many. I knew him as a patient and wise boss in PCO, an extraordinary colleague at Sussex Circle and a friend. In addition Celine enjoyed working for him at Transport Canada. He leaves an indelible record of accomplishments.

Dear Carmen and Alex and family,
Marilyn and I find it hard to accept that a man who was so full of life and so central to your and Alex's lives is no more. Ron will always live on in your hearts and memories and in those of his many friends. Ron was a leader, a mentor and a totally dedicated public servant. He left his indelible mark on Transport Canada when, as the Assistant Deputy Minister, he successfully led the Aviation Group and the Safety and Security Group through many challenges and crises. We will always remember him fondly.

The world lost one of the good ones but heaven has gained a positive force. Ron was always pleasant , respectful and thoughtful in my dealings with him over the years. His family should be rightfully proud of him and all he did for others. I pray that time and the good memories will bring peace and understanding to the family.

My condolences, particularly to you Carmen. It was in the early eighties that I had the pleasure to contribute what Ron wanted to do in Transport Canada. With pleasure because I have learned from him things which have been very useful in my work and objectives on how to deal with IT clients.I have had a very good time in Transport Canada and Ron supported me.
All the best Carmen. Regards Fern Habets
