Dudley had worked with Robbie at Stelco in Gananoque. The first weekend I arrived in Gananoque ,Dudley introduced me to Nonie and Robbie Clarke. The difference in our ages didn't matter, we became very good friends and our friendship continued over the years. Nonie gave me a lovely crystal bowl which I use frequently and think of her every time.
She will be sadly missed, and forever in our memories.
Sincerely, Jean and Dudley Showler

Nancy – Shelley was in touch with me to tell me of ‘Aunt’ Nonie’s passing. I was so sad to hear the news….but immediately….. I had many wonderful memories come flooding back. Were we not so very lucky? Our families shared so many special times together over the years – Aunt Nonie and Uncle Robbie will always have a special place in my heart. My sympathies to you, Bryan and all your family.

Though Nonie wasn't related to me, she and Robbie were so close to my mother and father at one time she has always been known to me as my Aunt Nonie. Leaving Gan as a young baby my mother always kept in touch and we spent many early vacations visiting her. I've lived in the West for many years now but would always try to see her when in the area. She was always so upbeat and happy to learn everything that my family had been up to. I looked forward to those visits and will miss them. My sincerest condolences to Nancy and your family. Your mother was a wonderful lady and will be looked back upon as a person with a witty sense of humor and a real zest for life. We were all lucky to know and love her.

We know she's in a better place and she sure had a nice long life. It's still hard on those left behind though so please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thinking of you and your family, Nancy as you feel this loss. My fondest memory of Aunt Nonie was when she and her sister, my Nana (Merle- 15 years older than Nonie) retold the story of a trip to the grocery store. Apparently Nonie didn't believe Merle's contention that she was allergic to salmon and, going ahead a little in the aisle, Nonie grabbed a tin of salmon and twirled around to shove it under Merle's nose yelling, "Do you think you'll break out in a rash if you smell the can?!" However the woman she accosted with the tin of salmon was not her sister but some other unsuspecting shopper- and Nonie and Merle started laughing so hard they could not explain to the (now terrified) woman why Nonie had come at her with a tin of salmon. When they retold this story the two of them started laughing so hard they had tears running down their faces. It was such a great moment between sisters. I think Nonie was the only one who could get Nana to really let go and laugh like that. I hope, if they meet again now they can share laughter like that again.

It was always a pleasure to see and chat with Nonie at Trinity when she was in Amherst View. The quintessential grandmother! Nonie clearly treasured her family, and was equally proud of her community of Gananoque. She will be missed by both.
Sincere condolences,
