Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Walker, Gerald Frederick (Gerry)

Gerry passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family at Carveth Care Centre, Gananoque on December 20, 2018. Gerry was born in Montreal just minutes in difference to the fated love of his life and future wife Jean; born on the same day- 16th, same month- June, and same year- 1926.

Gerry was one of the youngest volunteer members of the “greatest generation” having joined the Black Watch in 1942 and transferring to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders in time for the “Juno Beach” invasion of Normandy and the subsequent liberation of Holland. He was seriously wounded near Hoofdplaat, Holland in October of 1944 and was repatriated to Canada to convalesce and to begin his extensive service with Northern Electric and Bell Canada, and his lengthy commitment to the Royal Canadian Legion. As a long-standing resident in Bois-des-Filion, Quebec, Gerry served as both Sargeant-at-Arms and as President of Branch #251 in Laval-Chomedy, Quebec. The retirement move to the local Stocking Hill Apartments provided the additional opportunity to serve as the Sargeant-at-Arms to the local Branch 92 in Gananoque, Ontario. As a passionate golfer, Gerry enjoyed his long-standing membership and personal association with his many friends at the Colonnade Golf and Country Club.

Gerry was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ena Walker of Montreal, and brothers Robert and Howard Walker, and step-brother Victor and step-sister Norma Cormier. Gerry is survived by his loving wife, of 72 years, Jean (nee Mackey Drake), and the proud father of sons Gerald and Richard Walker. Similarly, he was thrilled to be the doting grandfather to Forrest, Dana, and Samatha, and to his remarkable great grandchildren: Max, Colten, Alexia, and Jaime.
