Emmerson: Joyce

Joyce Emmerson (nee Haynes) passed away on August 10, 2017 comforted by her family at her bedside ending a life fully lived.  Joyce has now joined her husband Gordon who died 20 years ago.  Joyce is the daughter of the late Leonard and Rose Haynes, and is predeceased by her sisters Ella and Laura.  She leaves behind her brother Henry and sister-in-law Rosemary and other family members living in England. From the moment they met at their work in England to making their home in Gananoque, Gordon and Joyce have enjoyed a full and active life.  Once settled in Gananoque, three beautiful sons were born: Lloyd, Gordon and Andrew.  After waiting many years, they were blessed with six wonderful grandchildren – John, Daniel, Jaime, Eric, Leslie and Mark. Joyce worked as a comtometer operator in Kingston, England (yes – she was ahead of her time).  Marrying Gordon in 1949, they moved to Canada in 1951.  In addition to her work in the home including close supervision of a busy backyard full of kids and friends, Joyce dedicated herself to community activities serving as a Girl Guide Leader and Commissioner for many years.

A great joy for Joyce was joining Beta Sigma Phi along with many close-knit friends. This chapter was definitely sisterhood united through love, loyalty and friendship.  Joyce also liked nothing better than receiving her friends for tea and a good game of bridge.  The family enjoyed many camping trips and boating events and that love of the outdoor & water continues today among family members. The summertime was always filled with laughter at the cottage on Burridge Lake to winters spent with many friends in Florida. The past few years have been a challenge. Joyce was provided excellent care at Fox Run By the River Retirement Home followed by Arbour Heights Long Term Care Residence in Kingston. The family wishes to say a great big thank you to all the staff. Joyce always had a zest for life and a strong love for her family and friends.  We raise our glass to a lovely lady, Mum and Nana – we love you and thank you for all the wonderful memories. A Mass will be held at Christ Anglican Church in Gananoque on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 11 am. A Rite of Committal will follow at Willowbank Cemetery. Please join the family at the Gananoque Curling Club to honour Joyce and her great life on this earth following the service. Online condolences at www.tompkinsfuneralhome.biz
