Riggs: Sylvia Ruth (Nee Steacy)

Peacefully after struggling with dementia and a recent fractured hip with her daughter Stacie by her side at Moira Place in Tweed on Friday July 28, 2017.  Ruth Steacy in her 90th year devoted mother to Stacie Riggs (Ajay Thakker) of Regina, Saskatchewan and David Riggs (Mary Hofstetter) of Stratford.  Special Grandmother to Jordan and Mackenzie of Regina, Saskatchewan.  Survived by sister  Carol Leggo of Gananoque and sister in law Elizabeth Steacy of Napanee.  Ruth was the devoted daughter of the Late George A. and Kathleen (O’Connor) Steacy.  Predeceased by 3 sisters Jeanne Cook of Gananoque, Vera Steacy of Kingston, Eleanor Delaney of Ottawa, 1 brother Howard Steacy of Napanee and 1 niece Linda Cook.  Ruth will be missed by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many friends.  Ruth will always be remembered as “The Fun Aunt”.  Inurnment will be held in the Union cemetery, Lansdowne on Saturday August 12 at 10am.  Following inurnment the family will receive friends at the Tompkins Funeral home 63 Garden St. Gananoque from 11:00am-1:00pm.  The family wishes to sincerely thank Ron and Liz Rudd from Seeley’s bay Retirement home and the staff of the Moira Place for the amazing care they provided for our mother.  As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Breast Action Kingston, Alzheimer Society or to St. James Anglican Church, Kingston.  As well as being a devoted mother and aunt, Ruth was an avid reader and creative writer.  Ruth was also very committed to her Anglican faith, loved gardening, travel and the Toronto Blue Jays along with her Grandson Jordan.  Ruth was an active member of the Gananoque and Ottawa curling clubs, Christ Church in Gananoque, St. Luke’s church in Burlington and St. James church in Kingston.  She worked for the Archdiocese of Ontario her last years prior to retirement.
