Hi Joan, I was so shocked to hear about Dave's passing. I wish I'd known, I would've come to be a support for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Please let me know if there is anything I can do, even just to talk. I regret that our paths have strayed somewhat but know that in my heart you will always be my "best friend".I'm sorry I didn't get to see Dave again. He was a great guy and a big part of my life at one time because he was with my "best friend". Time will be your friend in healing and memories will become "cherished" and when you're ready, I would love to share in some of them with. Oh to go back to our childhood ... time in that way isn't a very good friend ... it passes by much too quickly. I have talked about you often over the years and I really do cherish the friendship we had. In talking with my daughter (Shawna) tonight I found out that she was Dave's nurse his last day. She didn't know your name but we're pretty sure it was you and John's wife (Shawna) that were there at the time Dave went on to a better place. Please know that I will be thinking of you and praying for you. I miss you!

Dear Joan and family, I am sorry to hear of your sad loss. I met Dave while playing pool with the Thousand Islands Pool League. Dave was always a gentleman, quick with a smile, and offering words of support and a handshake at the end of each game. Please accept my sincere condolences. Karen Summerskill

On behalf of retirees of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, I extend condolences to the family of Dave Lefaivre. I did not know Dave well, but I remember him from when I joined the Patent Office in 1965. As I recall, he was active in our annual departmental picnics and other social events. There are several pictures of Dave in the photo albums in our departmental library. He did not attend any of our Annual Retirees Dinners. Best wishes to you all.

Dear Aunt Joan Sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Uncle David as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things (egg rolls & beaver tails) that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. Death leaves a heartache, that no one can heal, Love leaves a memory, that no one can steal Hold onto all your precious memories they will last forever! I know I will never forget the "Beaver Tails" that we shared in Ottawa. Laura

Joan and family, I am so sorry to hear this terrible news. I am also glad that I had the opportunity to know Dave, and his wit and sarcasm, over the years. I take comfort in the fact that your family is a close one, and that is often what makes times such as this easier to cope with. I look forward to remembering Dave with you and hearing the numerous stories that we all love to tell over and over again. You should feel lucky that you have so many to tell. Be strong when you can...and when you can't, let others give you strength. All my love from far away, Alison xxx
