As a youngster my family often visited my cousins, the Newburys. Uncle Frank was such a quiet, gentle man that I rarely took much notice of him. But one evening, during a thunderstorm, the electricity went out. Without even waiting for the phone call, Uncle Frank donned his rain gear and ventured out into the dark, wet, stormy night. Within hours, the lights were back on. Frank returned; Aunt Jean warmed up his dinner. Then Frank settled into his chair to read a book. To me, at 10 years old, he was a hero! He had saved the world. Yet, there he sat as if it were all in a day's work. It was then that I learned one of my first lessons about humility. I know now that the lights are all on in Heaven. Carla

I read Frank's obituary in the Halifax Chronicle Herald yesterday. I remember Frank visiting my home in Sydney many years ago. Frank and my father Clarence Earle were first cousins. Doug might remember me visiting when I took Aunt Louise over from Halifax to St. John's in the 70's. My condolences to Jean and all the family.

I read the obiturary on-line today and felt it must be for the father of a very old friend of mine - Susan Newbury. We attended Holloway school together in the 60's. My father died this year also so I can certainly understand what a loss you feel. My sympathy to the family

Dear Mrs Newbury &(Dianne,Vicky,Susan and Dale). I am sorry about the recent passing of Mr Newbury. Our mother (Marie Bilton) was the recipient of years of generosity friendship and hospitality. Thank you very much for that. I'll remember Mr Newbury for his love of reading, his generosity, his love of family and a sense of humor with an accompanying laugh that just filled up the room with joy!
