This news has had tremendous impact on my son Drew and myself. Randy visited our home in Gananoque many times for parties and just to get together with friends. He and Tim Bob Lanigan always ended up sitting with me in my kitchen to discuss life and their future.I shall cherish those days and the kindness and support they offered to Drew on his return to highschool.

My deepest, most sincere condolences. I am so very, very sorry for yours, and, as a nation, our loss. As a former infantryman serving The Royal Canadian Regiment, I know all to well the perilous duty our brave soldiers are called on to perform and the anxiety our loved ones share when we are afield. God bless you and know, on these most solemn moments, that there is no greater honour then to die in the service of our great nation and our fellow man. Cpl Randy Payne has made the ultimate sacrifice, he shall, forever, be remembered and cherished as a patriot of Canada. Pro Patria Michael Blais. C.D

I am very sorry about your loss of Randy. Thank you for allowing the media to cover his funeral. I do not agree with the gov't's policy about the flag and media unless the family request the privacy. I think it will help the families to grieve knowing that the country cares and grieves with them. Having the media coverage for the kids to view will be appreciated by them especially later in life for them to see what a great sacrifice he made. What a brave and beautiful job Tristan did of reading the poem for his Dad. Sincerely Diane Porter (a military wife)
