There is nothing that we can say that will help alleviate the pain and sorrow that you are going through. But I would like you to know how much I enjoyed visiting you and Uncle Robert in Gananoque. It was a wonderful day last year when I visited him and we went to the Gananoque Inn for lunch and then, the next day, we went to the Gatineaus to see the ski hills and the countryside. What a wonderful "yarn" we had. Thinking of you. Brian

Aunt Marilyn,Colleen,Cheryl,Charles,Corey and families. Softly the leaves of Uncle Robert's memory fall, Gently we gather and treasure them all. Unseen, Unheard - he is ever near. Still loved, still missed - still very dear. We have many fond memories of Uncle Robert. Mark and Andrew often reminisce about the day spent with Uncle Robert on the river. We remember times spent out the bay in Culls Harbour, enjoying fresh fish and jam tarts in Fogo, burned pork chops in Manotick (ha) and family gatherings in Ocean Pond. We also remember his kind, gentle spirit, youthful outlook on life, and most obviously, his unconditional love for family and friends. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Marilyn: My heart-felt sympathy to you and the family. In a phone call to Rev.Joe Burke in Ottawa, a few moments ago ( 1:20 p.m.) I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Bob's death. Memories, and all so pleasant, flooded me about times on Warbury Street in St. John's and, much later, professional contacts through ministry in Manotick. For these I am immensely grateful. With immeasurable grace and solid dignity Bob served his Lord. For such as he, the church is richer and blessed. I recall his devotion to you and the family and the pride he had in you all. And now, he is in the communion of saints. Alleluia! Love to you David Winsor

To Aunt Marilyn, Colleen, Charles, Cheryl, Corey and each and every member of your families, we express our sincere sympathy. We understand how difficult things must have been over the last little while. As with everyone, we are left with fond and loving memories, though everyone has a different memory that they'll cherish forever. Your summertime visits home to Newfoundland were always looked forward to and enjoyed so much. Boil ups on the beach were such a favorite with us all, and Uncle Robert never looked happier than when he had a cup of tea in his hand and a little something to go along with it. He will not be forgotten. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Love to you all. Lloyd, Joanne, Tommy & Emily

Thinking of Bob. Yes, his name is Robert, the Reverend Robert Belbin, but to his close friends and long-time acquaintances he was simply "Bob". The beautiful part of Bob too, was the casual way he wore the title Reverend. His was an inner reverence that shone through his eyes and his smile. He didn't need clerical garb to announce his profession. It beamed from his countenance whether wearing Sunday garb or branding hammer and saw. His was an inner joy that radiated 7/24, a joy reflecting warm thoughts, kind intentions, and loving care. His joy was rooted and grounded deeply in the fabric of Christian heritage---celebrating God's presence, family bonds and community service. A full accounting of Bob's virtues would smother the real likeness of what Bob was all about. What was important to Bob was to get to the heart of the matter. To stand in his presence was to be in his heart. He pulled you in through his eyes, welcomed you with soft voice, listened with open mind, responded with common sense, and balanced his firm opinions with "Well, I could be wrong, but that's how I see things." To put it simply, Bob was as good a friend as any person could ever want, and his friendship will be long remembered and sadly missed. These thoughts are offered with tears of joy for having had the wonderful privilege of Bob's friendship. Ivan and Mollie Jesperson

Dear Marilyn & Family, We are living in Ottawa for the winter and yesterday, while reading the Citizen, I was saddened to see the announcement of Bob's death. I have thought of him often since leaving Manotick 7 years ago. I would like to express, along with Phyllis, our sincere sympathy to you at this time. As I read Robert had a long battle with cancer. We certainly know how hard that can be on everyone. The fact of Bob's wonderful ministry in serving our Lord must be a wonderful consolation to you all. I pray this is so. I would love to be with you this afternoon, but it's not possible. May God continue to be with you and comfort you in the days ahead. In Christ's love, Gerald E. Sarcen

Sorry to hear of Robert's death. Grew up with him on Tim's land in Grand Bank. Fond memories include skating on a small patch of ice in front of his house in the winter as well as "sliding" on Dickie Butt's hill and the Pinch. Admired him for not letting problems with his eyesight during his earlier years get in the way of his successes in health care and the ministry. From his mom, Clara, who raised two families on her own, Robert no doubt learned how to overcome. His values of courage, fortitude and faith will undoubtedly live on in his children and grandchildren. I am grateful for having known Robert and his Grand Bank family. Sincerely, Don Brown Peterborough Ont.
